Purpose and Scope:
Ensures that the health needs of students are met, service delivery is monitored and evaluated, and adequate communication is provided to others participating in the care of the students.
Essential Job Functions:
1.
Administers first aid to staff/ students, medication and specialized medical treatments.
2.
Conducts comprehensive health assessments of the child in relation to the school setting.
3.
Assists with mandated screenings (e.
g.
vision, dental, hearing, etc.
).
4.
Collaborates with other school systems, departments and agencies to conduct assessments for the purposes of identifying health issues and/or providing information.
5.
Counsels students, faculty/staff and families on specific and general health conditions and lifestyle issues.
6.
Develops and Implements health care plans for students with health care problems.
7.
Serves as health liaison between school, physicians, parents and community.
8.
Performs other related duties as assigned or directedMinimum
Qualifications:
Requires Bachelors of Science or a Diploma from an accredited School of Nursing.
Requires (3) three years successful clinical experience, school nursing experience preferred.
Requires a current Tennessee license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care;Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care;Knowledge of basic health/medical office procedure and equipment; Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions;Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence;Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms;Ability to work effectively with people and demonstrate good human relations skills.
