Cashier - Dining & Health Services

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cashier is responsible for following company cash handling procedures to ensure that control of cash is effectively maintained in a personable manner.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Essential:
Must have basic math, reading and writing abilities
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions
Must have the ability to learn how to use and operate cash register
Must be able to learn cash handling control procedures
Job requires employee to add, subtract, multiply and divide
Must to able to talk to the customers
Job requires oral communication in the suggestive selling of products
Must be able to see near and far
Must be able to follow the Health Standards of the food service industry
Marginal:
Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time
At least 1 year of experience with handling cash
Must be able to work cash register
POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:
The Cashier is directly supervised by the Manager or Supervisor with no responsibilities in management or personnel supervision.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
1. Follow all company and client policies, rules and regulations
Be to work on time. In case of emergency report directly to your Manager in advance of regular scheduled starting time.
Report any problems immediately to the Manager or manager on duty
Read and follow company/client safety policies and procedures
2. Responsible for cash register operation
Retrieve money out of locked drawer and put in cash register before breakfast meal starts
Operate cash register as guests pay for meal using proper cash handling procedures
Greet customers with a smile and acknowledge by name, if known
Respond to the customers needs immediately and/or direct customer in right direction
Assist in re-stocking cups, condiments, napkins, etc., during slow periods
Close out cash register after lunch meal is over
Count cash and complete all forms, cash reports, charges, and deposit slip
Put money in safe after forms have been filled out
3. Maintain workplace professionalism
Arrive at work on time
Support company decisions and policies even though you may personally disagree with those decisions
Think in terms of what is best for the company
Establish and meet realistic timetables for accomplishing goals
Continuously evaluate the effectivness and efficiency of ongoing programs for which you are responsible and identify opportunities to improve these programs
Display a friendly and positive attitude toward the job and other persons; perform job duties willingly and without complaint; attempt to understand and respond to needs of supervisor and co-workers; avoid making hostile or unproductive comments
Maintain proper attendance Report to work on time; provide sufficient notice to supervisory personnel prior to unavailability or lateness in accordance with company policy
Dress professionally at all times
Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding departmental and company business; never releasing or discussing internal matters of a serious or sensitive nature outside the department or company
Ensure that your supervisor is advised on a timely basis of potential problems
The position responsibilities and standards of performance described may not be the only requirement of the position. It may be necessary to follow other instructions or perform other related duties required by Valley in order to conduct daily operations and meet corporate goals and objectives.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
